FAQ: WHY, HOW, WHAT & SHIPPING

WHY I PAINT

Me painting in my local community garden in Williamsburg, Brooklyn

As addicted as I am to being online, I firmly believe in getting off our screens and living in the real world. I paint because I find joy and meaning in making paintings that take up physical space. I use nature as my subject because I can think of nothing more essential and grounding in life than our natural world. Nature is not only what sustains us but is the essence of what we are. There is no separation between us and nature, but we so easily forget this fact. I hope my paintings show the value I put on the living world around us and inspire others to feel the same.

HOW I PAINT

My most common tools for applying paint: knives, razors and brushes. Also: the two types of oil paint I use: Gamblin and Williamsburg.

I like to layer wet-on-wet paint in a tick impasto style.

I paint quickly, usually in one or two sittings, using a mix of brushes, palette knives and razors. For every painting, I apply the paint very thickly, layering one wet layer on top of the next. Once the painting is finished, it needs 3 weeks to dry before it can be handled.

WHAT I PAINT ON

I paint on cradled wood panels which provide a smooth, flat, sturdy surface. Before I paint, I prime the panels with white gesso to create a barrier between the oil paint and the wood. I also make sure to prime the sides and the back of the panel to make sure the wood is treated evenly. On the back of the panel I add hanging wire, sign and date the work. The paintings can be hung either framed or unframed.

SHIPPING

To be eco-friendly, I reuse boxes I’ve received for outgoing painting shipments.

My paintings are well protected during shipping with many layers of bubble wrap.

I ship free of charge in the US via two-day UPS

Once I receive an automated notification of your sale, I’ll write back confirming I received your purchase and send you a timeline for when I’ll wrap up and send your painting. I typically ship paintings within 12 - 48 hours of purchase. Once I ship the work, I’ll send you your UPS tracking number. Non-paintings from my store are created on-demand and taking longer to ship.

International Sales

If you'd like to purchase a painting from outside the US, let me know your address and which painting you’re interested in. I can then send you a price estimate for the shipping to your country.

Packaging

Although my paintings are very sturdy, I also make sure to wrap them in glycine and at least 2 layers of bubble wrap to make sure they will easily handle any abuse they receive during the shipping process.

In an effort to be eco-friendly, I reuse packing material and boxes from deliveries I’ve received in the past. So don’t be surprised if your painting is wrapped in a box that was originally for a different product! I’m trying to do my best to preserve the nature that I’m painting.
