Artist Statement

Nature and art are the most nurturing and calming parts of my life so I'm always drawn towards painting the many beautiful places I visit. I often paint in one sitting, working quickly and predominantly with a palette knife, applying thick impasto paint on wood panels in an effort to mimic the strength and confidence I find when I'm out in nature. I usually work outdoors or from my home in Brooklyn.

Bio

Alex Roediger is a Brooklyn-based landscape painter whose connection to nature is rooted in his upbringing in upstate New York. Born and raised in the Capital Region and Adirondacks,  Alex developed an early appreciation for the beauty of the natural world, which continues to be his inspiration in his work today. Having earned a degree in painting from Pratt Institute, Alex has embarked on a journey to explore the intersection of art and nature. His landscapes are rendered with speed and thickly applied paint to capture the essence of the places he has traveled to. Currently employed at the Museum of Modern Art, Alex finds inspiration in the urban landscape, as well as the tranquility of the nearby parks and waterfronts. Alex has been in several exhibitions at the Kings Manor Museum (Queens, NY) in the past year and won the Best Painting Technique award during the Fenimore Art Museum’s Art by the Lake event in both 2023 and 2022.
